“BIG MONEY” MATT HIRSCHMAN COLLECTS $6,000 PAYDAY IN MAYNARD TROYER CLASSIC II AT SPENCER SPEEDWAY

Matt Hirschman of Northampton, PA capped off a memorable night this past Friday at Spencer Speedway by winning the Race of Champions Modified Series Maynard Troyer Classic II presented by F/A Products. The victory was his third of the season on the RoC Modified Series trail and 53rd of his career.

“It’s so incredible to win this race,” said Hirschman. “My family has had such a long association with Troyer Race Cars, my dad’s been racing a Troyer since I was born. This really means a lot to me.”

The 66-lap event paid tribute to Modified racing legend and two-time Race of Champions 250
winner, Maynard Troyer, who also founded Troyer Race Cars of Rochester, N.Y.

Hirschman started fourth in the 23-car field, and passed Andy Jankowiak of Tonawanda, N.Y. for the lead on lap 21. Jankowiak, who led the first 20 laps from the pole position, chased Hirschman around the ½-mile Spencer Speedway oval for the final 45 laps, but settled for second place. Chuck Hossfeld of Ransomville, N.Y. finished third in his first RoC Modified Series start of 2021 behind the wheel of the Advantage Motorsports #14.

With the win, Hirschman padded his series points lead over Austin Beers and Zane Zeiner. He’ll look to clinch his eighth RoC Modified Series championship during the 71st annual Race of Champions 250 on Sunday, September 26 during Presque Isle Downs & Casino Race of Champions weekend at Lake Erie Speedway.

The Maynard Troyer Classic II was part of a triple bill of open-wheeled racing at Spencer on Friday that also featured the Race of Champions Sportsman Series and the Rocket Performance 602 Sportsman Modifieds. The Leaty family of Williamson, N.Y. shared the spotlight in the Sportsman classes with Mike Leaty winning the 36-lap RoC Sportsman Series feature while his 14-year-old daughter, Alyssa
Leaty, earned her first career 602 Sportsman win.

Mike Leaty inherited the lead on lap 25 of the Sportsman feature when leaders Eddie Hawkins and Andy Jankowiak tangled coming out of turn two. Leaty missed the crash and then held off Patrick Emerling on a late race restart to capture his first RoC Sportsman win of 2021.

Shawn Nye finished third behind Leaty and Emerling. Jimmy Zacharias finished fourth after starting on the pole and leading the first seven laps. Daryl Lewis, Jr. completed the top five and maintained his series point lead going into the season-ending Race of Champions weekend.

Alyssa Leaty led all 15 laps from the pole to secure her first career Rocket Performance 602
Sportsman win. Leaty was greeted in victory lane by her family and crew, including an emotional hug from her dad, Mike, who drove his Modified from the pits to join the celebration.

The Wilbert’s U-Pull It Super Sixes also completed their season at Spencer with a 15-lap feature. Ashley Schoonmaker of Williamson held off Frankie Parsons and Brandon Allen to get her fourth-straight win and lock up the 2021 Super Sixes track championship.
