SPENCER SPEEDWAY POSTPONES 71ST ANNUAL SEASON OPENER TO FRIDAY, MAY 29

Race of Champions management has made the challenging decision to postpone the 71st Annual Season Opener at Spencer Speedway to Friday, May 29.

The decision is based on the current condition of the property along with a forecast from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration indicating a strong potential that, if started, Friday night’s program may not be completed.

“We have been caught in situations like this before at Spencer,” stated Joe Skotnicki. “It is not uncommon this time of year. The grounds still need additional time to dry, and with the forecast we are looking at, we are not confident we can complete the program once it begins. That only creates greater challenges for competitors, fans, staff and everyone involved.

“With the cost of travel and plans already taking shape for the weekend, we felt making an early decision was the best approach for everyone involved. We’ll restack the deck and come back next Friday ready to go.”

Additional event information regarding Friday, May 29, will be released during the upcoming week.
